Poori Bhaji Recipe

Navratri special Poori bhaji. The Bhaji is made of Potatoes and bottle gourd. A must try this Navratris.

Lets begin with the ingredients

Servings : 3-4 members

Ingredients required for bhaji are

  • Bottle gourd – 1
  • Potatoes – 2
  • Water – 1 glass
  • Rock salt – as per taste
  • Tomatoes – 3
  • Green chillies – 2
  • Ginger – 1.5 tbsp
  • Oil

For tempering

  • Oil
  • Red Chilli Powder
  • Turmeric powder

Process to make Bhaji

Peel and Cut the bottle gourd into pieces, wash them and keep aside

Peel and raw potatoes. wash them and add to bottle gourd.

As we need to mash these vegetables later. So we will be putting these in Pressure cooker along with a glass of water. Put these on gas till  3 whistles.

In the mean while, heat oil in a wok. Add cumin seeds to it.Let the cumin seeds splutter and then add chopped ginger.

Once the raw smell of ginger goes away, add chopped green chillies to it. Its completely upto you to decide how spicy you want your bhaji to be. I have used 2 green chillies as i would be adding red chilli powder too.

At this stage i have added blended tomatoes. Now let these cook till the oil separates.

Take another pan. Add oil in it. along with that I have added red chilli powder. I am using degi mirch here along with a pinch of turmeric powder. Heat it to the smoking point and add it to the main tempering.

Drain out boiled potatoes and bottle gourd and add them to wok.

With the help of a masher, mash these vegetables well and then add rock salt (sendha namak) to it.

Mix everything well. Cover the lid and let it cook on slow flame for 5-6 minutes. Your bhaji is ready. No onion no garlic navratri special bhaji.

I and my family has enjoyed this delicacy along with puris made of Kuttu aata (buckwheat flour). Buckwheat flour was kneaded along with water and rock salt. Then with the help of rolling pin it is made into puri form (round and flat – mine isn’t that round though). Last step is to deep fry it in oil. Your urge to eat something different in navratris will end here.

Very easy to make hassle free bhaji recipe. You feel better eating this as it includes less amount of potatoes.
