Easy Dahi Vada Recipe

This is an easy recipe. Dahi vada are traditionally a south Indian recipe but in this recipe I will be making Instant vada. Main ingredient is semolina (Suji / Rava). These vada/bhalla are as tastier as the regular ones. In this recipe you do not need any fermenting or waiting overnight. Ingredients required to make Dahi Bhalla / dahi vada are

  • Semolina (Suji / Rava) – 1 cup (180 grams)
  • Plain Yogurt (Curd) – 1 cup ( equal to semolina)
  • Ginger – 1 inch (grated)
  • Coriander – fine chopped (fistful)
  • Baking Soda – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to deep fry

To serve

  • Plain Yogurt (curd) – 1 cup
  • Tamarind Sauce – 1-2 tbsp
  • Green Chilli Sauce – 1-2 tbsp
  • Sev / Bhujia
  • Chaat Masala – a pinch

Process to make Dahi Bhalla / Dahi vada

  • In a bowl add semolina.
  • Add curd to it. Mix it well and make a nice mix
  • Add grated ginger
  • Add chopped coriander leaves
  • Add baking soda and salt as per taste
  • Mix it well and make a dough
  • Take a portion of dough and make small balls
  • Deep fry the balls in oil. Make sure that oil is  very hot.
  • Once fried keep vada / bhalla in water for at least 5 minutes.
  • Squeeze the vada and place it in the plate to serve
  • Pour curd (plain yogurt) over it
  • Add tamarind sauce and green chilli sauce
  • Add sev / bhujia
  • Sprinkle Chaat Masala and your lovely chaat is ready to serve
